County Emergency Management Leans on Social Media During the Tornado

In the aftermath of the April 10 tornado, the St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management triggered a FEMA social media experiment. Did your use of social media increase during the severe weather?

In the aftermath of the April 10 tornado that ripped caused damage to Florissant and the surrounding area, the St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) learned to embrace social media. It posted this message: “We have been hit by tornado and/or severe thunderstorm damage in Hazelwood, Missouri and possibly other areas. Need help monitoring social media for any damage reports. Primary location is the intersection of Howdershell and Lynn Haven in Hazelwood, MO. Thanks for your help!” The department said it immediately began searching social media looking for people reporting damage, injuries, outages, or resource needs in the wake of the tornado. Police Looking for North St. Louis County Bank Robber

A man implied he had a weapon and robbed the U.S Bank at 11000 Larimore Road in north St. Louis County on Friday at about 12:50 p.m.

St. Louis County Police are looking for a man that walked into the U.S. Bank, located at 11000 Larimore Road in unincorporated North County on Friday and robbed it. According to police, the man entered the bank around 12:50 p.m. Officers responded to the bank's alarm system. A man walked up to a teller and implied he had a weapon. He ran from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police. No injuries occurred during the incident. County Assessor Encourages Tornado Victim's to Report Damage for Potential Tax Break

St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmerman is encouraging homeowners to call his office at 314-615-4230 and report severe tornado damage to their property.

St. Louis County Assessor Jake Zimmerman wants victim's of Wednesday's tornado to be aware of their rights and know that they don't have to pay a high tax bill.  Zimmerman has instructed his staff to locate all homes in St. Louis County that sustained severe damage from the storm so the true value of the home can be reviewed or altered for the 2013 assessment period. Missouri law allow the assessors to adjust the values of residential property rendered uninhabitable by a natural disaster, even though it may occur during an assessment cycle.  “Someone who is displaced or whose home has suffered severe damage by a tornado, should not have to worry about an unfair tax bill," Zimmerman said in a press release. St. Louis County Presenting Shackelford Road Project Plan

More than a year after presenting three solutions to Shackelford Road, the Department of Highways and Traffic is prepared to present its plans.

More than a year after the St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic heard residents opinions on Shackelford Road, the department will present its plan to improve the roadway. The county department will host an open house Wednesday at the John F. Kennedy Community Center from 4 to 7 p.m. In September 2011, the department hosted an open house to get residents reactions to three proposed improvement plans for Shackelford Road between Humes and Charbonier. The proposed plans included: Solution No. 1: Two-way Center Left Turn Lane Shackelford Road would be widened from four to five lanes between Charbonier Road and Humes Lane. Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend 2009, I watched 3 accidents happen all within a 1 hour timespan. I can see Shackleford from my living room couch, so I have seen and heard way too many accidents. I'm wondering if decreasing the speed might help.   more ›
