Letter Carriers in Florissant Collect Food Saturday to Stamp Out Hunger

Place cans of unopened, non-perishable items next to your mailbox before the letter carrier delivers the mail Saturday. They will collect the food donations as they deliver mail along their routes. Locally, donations go to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

Florissant residents will have the opportunity Saturday, May 11, to donate food to people in need as part of the Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive. The event is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). Letter carriers will collect donations of unopened, nonperishable food items left next to mailboxes. Goods can include food items like peanut butter, soups and canned tuna. The St. Louis Area Foodbank received almost 220,000 pounds of food as part of the event. Overall, letter carriers in the bi-state region collected more than 724,647 pounds of food in one day. That equates to more than 591,500 meals. In 2010 it received more than 300,000 pounds of food. TEAM Food Pantry Joins Area Pantries in St. Louis Foodbank Seminar

More than 200 representatives are expected at Thursday's seminar.

Thursday, area food pantries, soup kitchens and other food programs will get a little help of their own. Directors, volunteers and staff of area food pantries, soup kitchens and other programs, including a representative from The Emergency Assistance Ministry in Florissant, will attend an all-day seminar, hosted by the St. Louis Area Foodbank. The agency will host more than 200 representatives from across the metropolitan area for an annual day of training and education on topics including, United States Department of Agriculture policies and social media. Bring Canned Goods to Qdoba and Receive Free Queso Dip This Week

All items collected from now until Sunday, Nov. 18 will be donated to the St. Louis Area Foodbank.

Qdoba Mexican Grill is once again hosting "Cans for Queso," a food drive to help support the St. Louis Area Foodbank this Thanksgiving season.  The St. Louis Area Foodbank is the Bi-State region’s largest non-profit 501(c)(3) food distribution center dedicated to feeding those in need.  From now until Sunday, Nov. 18, customers who bring canned goods or other non-perishable food items to any St. Louis-area Qdoba will receive a free order of 3-Cheese Queso and handmade tortilla chips.  All items collected will be donated to the St. Louis Area Foodbank. Frank Finnegan, president and CEO of the St. Louis Area Foodbank said in a news release that in 2011, Qdoba patrons donated 3,399 pounds of food to help fight hunger in the St. Louis area. …
