St. Louis County Presenting Shackelford Road Project Plan

More than a year after presenting three solutions to Shackelford Road, the Department of Highways and Traffic is prepared to present its plans.

More than a year after the St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic heard residents opinions on Shackelford Road, the department will present its plan to improve the roadway. The county department will host an open house Wednesday at the John F. Kennedy Community Center from 4 to 7 p.m. In September 2011, the department hosted an open house to get residents reactions to three proposed improvement plans for Shackelford Road between Humes and Charbonier. The proposed plans included: Solution No. 1: Two-way Center Left Turn Lane Shackelford Road would be widened from four to five lanes between Charbonier Road and Humes Lane. Friday afternoon of Labor Day weekend 2009, I watched 3 accidents happen all within a 1 hour timespan. I can see Shackleford from my living room couch, so I have seen and heard way too many accidents. I'm wondering if decreasing the speed might help.   more ›

Construction Work Begins on Patterson Road Improvements

The roadwork will add a right-turn lane, storm sewers and a sidewalk.

An arterial road in Florissant is undergoing a bit of a transformation thanks to St. Louis County. This past week, St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic began construction work on Patterson Road, from Sally Lane to the entrance of the McDonald’s north on North Lindbergh, to add a right-turn lane to the west side of the roadway. Funded by federal and St. Louis County funds, the project will ease congestion as well as add storm sewers, concrete sidewalk and ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, according to a City of Florissant press release. The extension of the right turn lane could be extended to the intersection at Mullanphy and traffic flow onto Lindbergh and Patterson would still be the same. MODOT's original plans on Southbound Lindbergh was to add an acceleration lane from Patterson Road to The Sears Hardware store. The additional lane stops at the Honey Baked store.
