A North County man faces several criminal charges after University City Police said he had sex with a young girl while she was between the ages of 5 and 8 years old. Cory Byrd, 31, of the 4400 block of Paddock Point Avenue in Black Jack, was charged Thursday with several crimes, including six counts of first-degree statutory sodomy and three counts of first-degree statutory rape. University City Police said the crimes took place between Nov. 26, 2009 and Nov. 25, 2012. Byrd was being held Friday in St. Louis County jail. Bail was set at $250,000. University City Police said they did not have a photo of the defendant that could be released.

A Ferguson man forced two women at gunpoint to perform sexual acts on two consecutive nights, Ferguson Police said. Gregory Hazlett, 46, of the 1500 block of Somerset Terrace Drive, was charged Tuesday with two counts each of forcible rape, forcible sodomy by displaying a weapon, attempted forcible sodomy and kidnapping, and one count of armed criminal action. Ferguson Police said Hazlett had a handgun and kept a woman from leaving his home, forcing her to have sex with him on Sept. 14. On Sept. 15, he threatened to kill a second woman and would not allow her to leave his home, forcing her to have sex with him, police said. Hazlett is being held in St. Louis County jail. St. Louis County Police charged the 22-year-old man with first-degree statutory rape and two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy.
A North County man was charged July 24 with having sex with a child. Brandon A. Edwards, 22, of the 3500 block of Cypress Creek Drive in unincorporated St. Louis County near Florissant, was charged with first-degree statutory rape and two counts of first-degree statutory sodomy. A huge pet peeve of mine is when police refer to this as "the man had sex with a three year old" no, no, no - he didn't have sex with a three year old, he RAPED a three year old. He raped that child as a four year old. He raped that poor baby as a five year old. not ONCE was it sex.
