St. Louis Post-Dispatch Editorial Supports Gina Walsh in Senate Race

The editorial board gives Walsh the edge in the state Senate District 13 race.

With Redditt Hudson and former state representative Gina Walsh facing off in the Aug. 7 primary next week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch editorial board has backed Walsh in the Senate District 13 race. According to the Aug. 1 editorial: “Whoever replaces Sen. Tim Green, D-Spanish Lake, has big shoes to fill. For eight years, Mr. Green was workers' best friend in the Senate, standing up for unions, fighting back Republican attempts to diminish their effectiveness and successfully fending off the worst proposals, such as right-to-work bills. “Gina Walsh, 55, a longtime union member in the insulation trade, is in this tradition. True that Senator Tim Green will be hard to replace although, working with Rep. Gina Walsh over the years makes you understand she IS the best selection for the Missouri 13th Senate seat. Also, Tim and Gina have ALWAYS had the best interest of North St. Louis County in their heart...and that speaks volumes to me!   more ›

The End of State Filings Brings the Campaign Season

The 1st Congressional District and senate District 13 could prove to be vital races for the North County area.

Now that the filing period to sign up for state legislative races is over, things are beginning to be a little clearer about what’s to come during the impending election cycle. Locally the main event will most likely be the 1st Congressional District race that features Reps. Russ Carnahan (D-St. Louis City) and Lacy Clay (D-St. Louis City). Barring a Missouri Supreme Court ruling that chucks the redistricted congressional map, both candidates remain on the ballot to run in the district that includes all of St. Louis City and a portion of St. Louis County. The battle between Clay and Carnahan is one notable primary set to occur during the 2012 election cycle. There is, after all, a dizzying eight-way Democratic race for lieutenant governor…
