Superintendent, After Inter-School Fight: 'Schools Cannot Alone Keep Schools Safe'

St. Charles School District Superintendent Jeff Marion says social media presents a unique challenge to schools in regards to school safety.

Following news that several Ferguson-Florissant School District students were involved a fight at St. Charles West High School, Ferguson-Florissant officals are still awaiting for a complete police investigation to hand down punishment.  Meanwhile St. Charles School District Superintendent Jeff Marion, speaking on school safety to St. Charles Patch, said, "the only thing that might have made a difference is if someone, if some of the kids, had given us a heads up. Maybe we could have talked to parents and kids and intervened." The fight began on a social media website between students from St. Charles West the Ferguson-Florissant School District and culminated Feb. 8 when several teenagers, some of whom attend the Ferguson-Florissant …

Hazelwood School District Hosting Parent Engagement Forums on School Safety

If you are concerned about safety in Hazelwood schools, this is your opportunity hear about safety measures, to voice your concerns and have questions answered.

As student safety has moved to the forefront in the past month with several shcool shootings nationwide, and safety incidents within the Hazelwood School District (HSD) will be hosting Parent Engagement Forums on school safety. The forums will be an opportunity for HSD to share the safety and security revisions, according to the district website, and also allow for parent feedback and input on the safety plans. School Officials Reject Idea of Arming Teachers at Safety Meeting

However, law enforcement and school district officials said a meeting of the Safe Schools Partnership Program Thursday morning produced meaningful discussions on other ways to prevent a repeat of the tragic school shooting in Connecticut last week.

Law enforcement and school district officials said a meeting of the Safe Schools Partnership program Thursday morning produced meaningful discussions about ways the two groups can work together to improve safety at St. Louis-area schools in the wake of last week’s tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. “It was a very frank and open conversation between law enforcement and school officials about what can we do, what else can we do,” St. Louis County Police Department Chief Tim Fitch said in an interview with Patch after the meeting, which involved police departments and school districts from across the St. Louis area. Florissant Police Take School Security Seriously After Connecticut Shooting

The department plans to meet with officials from public, private and parochial schools throughout the city Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss school security.

In the wake of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, local police are on alert, adding new precautionary measures to their already-rigorous safety plans. I didn't realize that he shot his way in, Stacey! That is insane. I like your idea of an emergency button. I do know that local school kids are doing intruder drills (much like we did fire and tornado drills back in the day) and have been for awhile.
