Little Consensus Found in Housing Market Predictions

While some predict a slowing of home foreclosures in 2011, not everyone is so sure.

Carol O'Mara, the City of Florissant's Director of Housing and Community Development, said that foreclosures have persisted. If nothing else, however, today's foreclosures have different causes than at the beginning of the economic downturn in 2008, she said. Let the Shopping Begin!

It's the busiest shopping time of the year. The day after Thanksgiving where people line up outside of the doors way before the business even opens - Black Friday. Florissant has a number of stores with varying opening times, and we're covering the biggest ones in town. The earliest opening in the area came at 12:01am at GameStop. Teens and parents lined three storefronts nearby GameStop for its early morning opening to get their hands on pre-owned game systems and their games. We spoke to a few Black Friday first-timers as well as more professional Black Friday shoppers about their expectations and what they're out to buy.

A Sign of Life

Department stores continue to pull in crowds at Jamestown Mall.

Jamestown Mall might show signs of diminish throughout most of the year, but even it has proven successful on Black Friday. The two biggest remaining stores of the mall, Macy's and JC Penney Outlet, hosted a number of early morning sales on Black Friday. JC Penney Outlet opened its doors at 3:30 a.m., but customers started lining up outside of its main doors as early as 2:30 a.m. "You can't beat the prices here," said Ernestine Branom, who was the fifth person in line at the door. "The sales are unbelievable." More than 30 people gathered outside of the front door of the JC Penney Outlet for sales ranging from a $12.99 DVD player to a $49.99 GPS system. "This is a good value on products, especially nowadays," said a customer who wished …
