Patch sites around America, including yours, will take part in a National Moment of Silence at 8:30 a.m. Central time on Friday. At that hour, the website will go blank for 5 minutes. Patch Editors Volunteer at St. Louis Crisis Nursery

Find out how you can help the nursery, or send your own ideas of places for Patchers to volunteer.

The Crisis Nursery's mission is to prevent child abuse by providing temporary housing and care for young children in order to give their parents and caretakers the space and time needed to resolve crisis.  Patch editors organized and sanitized toys, cleaned high chairs and walls, put away summer clothes, put babies to sleep and played with the little ones. It's College Colors Day: Show Us Your Fan Photos!

Are you a Mizzou fan? College Colors Day is an annual day where people across the country show their support for their favorite college by wearing its colors.

Mizzou? SLU? Lindenwood? Which college or university lays claim to having the most fans in St. Louis?  Today is College Colors Day, an annual celebration, according to its website, dedicated to promoting the traditions and spirit that make the college experience great by encouraging people across America to wear apparel of their favorite college or university throughout the day. Here at Patch, we're using the day to find out which higher education establishment has the most support in the St. Louis-community. I, myself, am a proud graduate of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale—go Salukis!—but am also a huge fan of Mizzou. What about you? Upload a photo of you, your family, your dog—whatever—displaying your college colors.   When …

Florissant Teen Designer Wins Prize at Salvation Army's Garbage Bag Gala

Aspiring hair stylist from Florissant created two stunning dresses for the event, which benefited the homeless.

If the two dresses Lexi Koenig made out of primarily duct tape and trash bags weren't enough to turn heads, her age certainly was. Koenig, a 17-year-old Florissant resident, created two stunning dresses—one formal and one casual—for The Salvation Army's Garbage Bag Gala, which was held at the Moonrise Hotel July 27 in University City. The event aimed to shine a spotlight on The Salvation Army's homeless services as models showcased creations made of garbage bags and duct tapes, designed by some of St. Louis's top fashion minds.  Koenig was one of more than a dozen designers to participate. She was sponsored by a local Florissant business, The Cutting Edge Studio, where she is in training to become a cosmetologist. Patch was a sponsor at …

Bill, I seem to consume your every thought as much as you mention me, it is frightening really, and brings me some consternation and concern that a TRO might be in order, but that aside, perhaps you might re-read my statements to which you refer. I was referring to the "Jeffco Most Wanted" piece. Surely you can understand that there is a substantive difference between the public interest in …   more ›
