Florissant Community Continues to Rally Around Officer Mike Vernon

The Florissant officer who was shot on Memorial Day has a number of fundraisers planned in his honor this month.

While Florissant Officer Mike Vernon continues his recovery, the community continues to band around him and his family in their time of need with a number of fundraisers. Saturday, Florissant Firefighters Community Outreach will host a trivia night at the Florissant Elks Lodge at 6 p.m. The cost is $20 per person or $160 for a table of eight. Residents can bring in food and snacks and a cash bar will be made available. An auction and 50/50 drawing will also be held. Injured Florissant Police Officer Speaks Out at Recent Concert

Officer Mike Vernon, who was shot in the line of duty on Memorial Day, addressed a crowd last weekend in one of few public appearances.

Florissant Police Officer Mike Vernon spoke and thanked a concert crowd Saturday night in Florissant, according to the Independent News. Officer Vernon was shot in late May and has spent the summer recuperating. The Butch Wax and the Hollywoods concert was one of few public appearances he’s made this summer. “I don’t like to speak in front of large crowds,” Vernon said, “but if there is one large crowd it would be the city of Florissant. You guys have gone above and beyond. I start every day and end every day with ‘Thank You’.” Earlier this week, Patch reported a grand jury indicted Brian L. Florissant Officer Fundraisers Keep Moving Full Steam Ahead

A number of fundraisers continue for the officer throughout the fall.

Although a few months have passed since Florissant Police Officer Mike Vernon was shot in the line of duty, Florissant and the St. Louis area have not stopped supporting him or his family. Several other fundraisers are planned for the officer this month and well into early fall. This weekend, Unsung Heroes Soccer Organization hosts an 8 versus 8 soccer tournament at Gametime Sportsplex in St. Peters. All proceeds will benefit the Vernon family. The following weekend, a dinner/dance/auction will be held for him at the Plumbers and Pipetfitters Local 562 Auditorium at 12385 Larimore Rd. Benefits Continue to Show Love, Support of Florissant Police Officer

Several businesses and organizations have put together fundraisers, benefits to honor Officer Mike Vernon.

As Officer Mike Vernon continues to recuperate, the outpouring for him and his family grows. Several other fundraisers are planned for Vernon in the next month, including: Many fundraisers have already been held for the officer, and Florissant Police Department spokesman Andy Haarman said that many other calls have been yielded for many more. Vernon was shot on Memorial Day during a search for a burglary suspect. Officer Andy Haarman said Monday that Officer Vernon is still undergoing extensive physical therapy and remains humble by the support of the community. Fundraisers, Outpouring Continue for Florissant Officer Mike Vernon

Saturday's event raised more than $39,500 for Officer Vernon and his family.

As Florissant Police Officer Mike Vernon continues his road to recovery, the community and surrounding organizations continue to support and uplift his family. This past weekend, more than 5,000 people showed up to Joe’s Pub to show their love and support to honor Officer Vernon. According to Florissant Police Department spokesperson Andy Haarman, the event fundraised more than $39,500. Previously, Backstoppers presented Officer Vernon and his family with a check for $50,000, too. He also received $500 on behalf of the Creve Coeur Police Department’s charity golf tournament. Help for Officer Vernon, Family Begins to Come In

Backstoppers provide the family $50,000, and fundraising efforts are underway.

  Florissant and area organizations continue to rally behind a Florissant police officer who was shot in the line of duty earlier this week. Friday, The Backstoppers, an organization that aids families of police, firefighters and other public safety officials, donated $50,000 to Officer Mike Vernon and his family at DePaul Health Center, where he's being treated. “The Vernon family is in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. We consider it an honor and privilege to be able to assist Officer Vernon in this time of need,” Backstoppers Executive Director Chief Ron Battelle said.
