An organized movement of strikes began in St. Louis and is spreading across the region. Employees at McDonald's in North St. Louis County, and Jimmy John's took to the picket lines Wednesday. Employees at 20 fast food locations will strike Thursday.
People peacefully gathered and marched in front of a Ferguson McDonald's Restaurant today. You could hear the group of about 100 chanting during the strike," We started from the bottom and now we're here; $7.35 just ain't fair." There was also, "We want change and we ain't talking about pennies." As well, a whole host of additional songs. But for all the people smiling, the subject at hand was serious. The crowd gathered as part of a movement to unionize fast food restaurants throughout the St. Louis Region. Employees at the Ferguson McDonald's, located at 9131 W. A man implied he had a weapon and robbed the U.S Bank at 11000 Larimore Road in north St. Louis County on Friday at about 12:50 p.m.
St. Louis County Police are looking for a man that walked into the U.S. Bank, located at 11000 Larimore Road in unincorporated North County on Friday and robbed it. According to police, the man entered the bank around 12:50 p.m. Officers responded to the bank's alarm system. A man walked up to a teller and implied he had a weapon. He ran from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, according to police. No injuries occurred during the incident. A North County man received 110 years in prison for forcibly sodomizing two women and hitting one of them in the head with a bottle. St. Louis Circuit Court Judge Mark D. Seigel sentenced Kenneth L. Roberts Jr, 24, to 15 years each on one count of forcible sodomy, armed criminal action and two counts of first-degree assault. He also sentenced Roberts to 25 years for a second forcible sodomy charge, 20 years on the second armed criminal action charge and five years for felonious restraint. Seigel ran each sentence consecutively, totaling 110 years in prison. A jury found Roberts guilty on all charges Feb. 27. Sapp will headline the concert in collaboration with the American Heart and American Stroke associations, to raise awareness about the risk factors associated with a stroke.
The American Heart and American Stroke associations are bringing Pastor Marvin Sapp, popular American Gospel music singer-songwriter, to St. Louis on April 12 for an evening of inspiration at the Most Powerful Voices Concert and Health Fair. The free concert and health event will take place at Greater Grace Church located at 3690 Pershall Road in Ferguson. The purpose of the event is to educate the community about the risk factors associated with having a stroke. The health fair will begin at 4:30 p.m. and features health screenings, give-a-ways and CPR demos. A federal judge has dismissed all but one claim in lawsuits filed against Mallinckrodt, in which 29 people believe radioactive contamination in Coldwater Creek caused their cancers.
Those fighting a faceless battle my feel a bit of defeat after U.S. District Court judge Audrey Fleissig on Wednesday, dismissed all but one claim in lawsuits filed against Mallinckrodt (now Covidien, which is based in the City of Hazelwood) regarding Coldwater Creek's radioactive contamination and its link to their cancers and other illnesses. Twenty-nine individuals were involved in the lawsuit, but thousands more believe the correlation like Mary Christine Moore who commented on Patch about the situation. "Many of my 1968 graduating class are dead (of) cancer," said Moore whose family lived on Stoneham Drive in Berkeley. Moore said her mother died of ovarian cancer in 2006. The state health department has been studying the incidence and death rates of cancer in North County zip codes adjacent to the creek. They say increased risk of cancer from nuclear contamination is unlikely.
Cancer incidents in North St. Louis County are not linked to Coldwater Creek. That's what a report the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services released today says. State Health Department Investigation Last month, Patch told you the state would be analyzing cancer clusters in North County as the result of local concern of increased risk due to nuclear contamination. Gena Terlizzi with DHSS's Office of Public Information said local residents asked the department to look at instances. She also said the report only looks at Coldwater Creek and not any of the several dump sites that were in the area.
