I think we all tend to get a little stir crazy during the winter months when it’s too cold to play outside, and there aren’t many outdoor events to attend. One fun and free way to get out of the house is to take your kids to story time at your local library. The Florissant Valley Branch Library has a story time on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. The program is geared for children ages 0 to 2, and the librarian hosting the event is very accommodating to young children without long attention spans. Nothing livens up a cold, dreary December day like a showcase of art made by kids. On Saturday, the winners and other participants in the Florissant Valley Branch of the St. Louis County Library's "Young @ Art" contest had their submitted artwork on display in the library's auditorium. "It's all about being artistic and working that brain muscle," said Jennifer Richardson, Florissant Valley's youth services specialist. First- and second-place ribbons and certificates were awarded to kids in three age groups: kindergarten through second grade, grades 3-6 and grades 7-9. Only a first-place ribbon was awarded for both the grades 10-12 and 3-D art categories, as only one piece of art was submitted in each one. In total, there were 31 …
