Mo. Gov. Jay Nixon, Local Leaders Urge Residents to Use Local Contractors

Right after a natural disaster can be one of the most vulnerable times for a homeowner. Local leaders are urging residents to do their homework and work with reputable companies to rebuild.

The road to rebuilding is going to be a long one for the cities of Hazelwood and Florissant, as residents finish clean up and begin looking for reputable contractors. Do Your Homework "Don't be a victim twice," St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley warned residents, as did Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon. "I always recommend that you work with locals when it comes to rebuilding," Nixon said. "There's plenty of great contractors in the area, (and) there's plenty of great folks who can help you. "I grew up across from Koch Park (in Florissant)," he told Patch. Zweifel said seeing the damage done to an area where he grew up was devastating. However, when walking around neighborhoods talking to residents, he was reminded of why he'…

Learn About Finding Credible Help Sunday at Tornado Recovery Resource Fair

Recovery from a disaster can take several months, or even years, and the United Way along with FEMA's Long Term Recovery want to help residents realize the road ahead.

St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley said it best on Thursday. "Don't become a victim twice," he said of researching reputable people to help in tornado re-building efforts. For that reason, the Multi-agency Resource Center will be available to help those tornado victims this weekend. The organization will host a resource fair at the Hazelwood Community Center, located at 1186 Teson Road on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. The goal is to help area Florissant and Hazelwood residents with finding credible and appropriate resources. Recovery from a disaster can take several months, or even years, which is evident as we near the two year mark of the Good Friday Tornadoes that ripped through North County heavily impacting Ferguson and Bridgeton…
