The ruling on the amendment to Walmart’s proposal will have to wait a little bit longer. The public hearing scheduled for Monday’s City Council was postponed until the March 25 meeting at the petitioner’s request, and the council approved the postponement. This is the third postponement for the public hearing. Previously, Walmart received approval of its development plans last year from the council and has requested an amendment to its plans, which have a cause of concern for City Engineer Tim Barrett. Barrett told the council at its Jan. 28 meeting that he’s worried about the truck traffic for the development as well as “soil in the flood plane fringe,” which violates city ordinance, according to an article from the Independent News. …

Several residents spoke out at Monday night's meeting against the possibility of a new tax incentive district.
The Florissant City Council saw its first glimpse of the Walmart development and Sunswept Community Improvement District (CID), but residents gave strong opposition to the laid out plans. After listening to the presentation made by Alan Bornstein of THF Realty for the CID and new development plans for Walmart, about 10 residents stood up to speak out on the proposal. Residents Michael and Elizabeth O’Fallon both said they support the development of a Walmart in town, but not through tax increment financing (TIF) or a CID. “I hope we can reap the rewards of Walmart being here,” Michael O’Fallon said. “I encourage the council to think long and hard about this.” Other residents said that they’re not looking forward to seeing a Walmart in …

During City Council public hearing, Walmart gave a broad overview of its plans for the Florissant area.
THF Florissant representative Jeff Otto made sure to lay out every cut, change and crinkle of the Walmart plan on Monday night. In the same regard, the Florissant City Council made sure not to miss any steps or glaring details to the commercial franchise that continues to seek its approval. Otto, the council and the public spent more than 90 minutes reviewing plans to rezone the land of 3350 and 3500 N. Highway 67 as well as 3605 Seville Dr. for a 24-hour Walmart Supercenter and an out lot business during a public hearing. “Our desire is to build the best quality building,” Otto said during his presentation. as per the city council meeting this monday, the CID has been pulled from the proposal for walmart.
