The Hazelwood Central Dynasty?

There's no coincidence that the Hawks have had such a successful run in recent years.

Prize fights, movie premieres and restaurant openings bring out celebrities and legends. You could add any post-season sporting event for the Florissant area, especially when it involves the Hazelwood Central football team. Heading the "A-List" at the Hawks game against DeSmet last weekend was former Hazelwood Central great Tony VanZant. VanZant led the Hawks to the 1985 state title. He finished with 6,138 rushing yards and 91 touchdowns in his high school career. He still looked as if he could play for the Hawks. VanZant is the head coach at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, Mich., and he was back home visiting family last weekend. "I try and follow them as much as I can each week," VanZant said. I agree that the hawks should be considered s dynasty . It is truly a tradition if winning. I few name that could also be mentioned are Doug Gardner, Craig Raymond, John Doiglas, Earl Williams and Tim Wight and the Demolin family. Most of he names mentioned went on to the next level to play.   more ›
