Residents and tons of families turned out to watch the parade.
Florissant Patch found a perfect place to capture the people, animals, floats and vehicles that were involved with the Valley of Flowers parade. We took several photosto document this balmy Mother's Day afternoon in Old Town Florissant. The "Grand Parade" was part of the 49th Annual Valley of Flowers Festival, which took place in Florissant during the weekend.

Two incidents of stealing from cars have made the crime list in town.
April 21 Florissant Police arrested two men who were caught breaking into cars of an apartment complex parking lot. Police caught the two Bel-Ridge residents in the 2200 block of Keeven Lane after a resident reported suspicious activity. The two were arrested for stealing from cars, and warrants have not been applied in the case yet. April 25 One teen and one adult have been arrested for possessing stolen property from cars in the Florissant area. Police stopped the two after reports of a suspicious people in the area of South Costello and St. Anthony. The adult remains in custody, and the teen has been released to his family pending action of the St. Louis County Family Court.

With gas prices in Florissant averaging $3.52, drivers are paying almost $1 more per gallon than last year.
Gas prices in the St. Louis area have been rising steadily, and unfortunately, local experts are forecasting that the trend will continue. Currently, gas prices in the St. Louis area are averaging $3.56 a gallon, according to AAA of Missouri. That’s up from $2.59 a gallon the same time last year – an increase of almost $1. “It takes a significant bite out of family budgets, especially when you consider that a family with two cars uses about 1,200 gallons of gas a year,” said Mike Right, a spokesman for AAA of Missouri. “With an increase of $1 a gallon – that’s a $1,200 hit,” he said. Two thefts reported during the week of Jan. 31.
Feb. 3 A motor vehicle theft was reported in the 300 block of St. Edward. According to the police report, the victim left their car unattended to warm up, and it was stolen while warming up. No suspects have been reported. Feb. 6 Police are looking for suspects in a felony stealing incident. The catalytic converters were stolen from four cars in a business parking lot. All cars were parked on the lot at the time.

Police say there's an uptick in stolen cars that are being warmed up in the morning.
Winter always brings freezing temperatures to the St. Louis area, but several car owners have received a very “cold shoulder” by trying to warm up their cars. Florissant police have reported a rash of stolen cars recently from owners leaving their unlocked cars in the driveway to warm up. “Most people don’t think they’ll be a victim of a crime like this,” said Sgt. Kevin Boschert of the Florissant Police Department. “This leaves more opportunity for thieves.” According to a recent police report, thieves attempted to steal, or stole, five vehicles in a 24-hour period. "Warming up the car" has changed definitions over time. Now, it means waiting for the heater to blow warm air. Driving the vehicle, i.e. making the engine work, will blow warm air at your feet faster than just letting a car idle in a driveway or a parking space.
