Ebert Takes His Seat on Ferguson-Florissant Board

As board director Brian Fletcher steps away, Ebert and Paul Schroeder are sworn into the board.

Brian Scott Ebert got a big birthday gift Wednesday, when he took his place on the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education. Incumbent Paul Schroeder rejoined his fellow board members. Superintendent Art McCoy swore in both men during the board’s reorganization portion of its monthly meeting. “I hope I can simplify things and base all of my decisions in what’s best for kids,” Ebert said moments before being sworn in. Ebert and Schroeder both won the two seats last Tuesday during the municipal election. With Ebert being elected to the board, board director Brian Fletcher stepped down. McCoy and Board President Leslie Hogshead presented Fletcher with a photo and his nameplate to thank him for his time and dedication to the board. “We are so …

Incumbent Paul Schroeder and Brian Scott Ebert will be sworn in and take their seats at the table during the board meeting.

The Ferguson-Florissant School District Board of Education will look a bit different when the board does its reorganization during its meeting Wednesday night. Following the reorganization, the board will continue with its regular meeting agenda. For a full agenda of Wednesday’s meeting, check out the Ferguson-Florissant school district’s website.

Ferguson-Florissant's Newest Board Member Gets Right to Work

Brian Scott Ebert jumps into the "deep end of the pool" to join Schroeder and others on the school board.

After winning seats on the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education Tuesday night, incumbent Paul Schroeder and Brian Scott Ebert have hit the ground running. Schroeder held on to his seat, while Ebert earned his seat by winning with 2,566 and 2,809 votes, respectively. Ebert and Schroeder were both on their way to meet with the board and catch Ebert up on some of his new responsibilities and training he would need to get done. Ebert said that Tuesday night was an unbelievable night and that even with a lot of work ahead of him, he’s recovering from the long election night. “I’ve been on both sides of the coin, I’ve won and loss,” he said Wednesday afternoon. “The line that ‘it feels a lot better to win,’ is so true.” Despite feeling a …

Schroeder, Ebert Elected to Ferguson-Florissant Board

Incumbent Paul Schroeder will serve a third term on the board, while Brian Scott Ebert will take Brian Fletcher's seat.

The Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education has a familiar face and a new face joining its board table after Tuesday night's election. Incumbent Paul Schroeder and second-time candidate Brian Scott Ebert each won seats on the school board. Ebert and Schroeder gathered 2,809 and 2,566 votes, respectively to beat third challenger Barbara Morris. “Thank you to the voters of Ferguson and Florissant,” Ebert wrote on his Facebook page Tuesday night. “I am excited and committed to work hard for our students and school district.” Schroeder will be serving his third term on the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education. Voters Appear to Stay Away From Polls in Florissant

Voter turnout appears to be low in the municipal election.

If you are out visiting Florissant polling places Tuesday afternoon, you might notice that low voter turnout appears to be a recurring issue across the city. At the Christ Covenant Church in Ward 7, several candidates and poll workers stood outside of the church to promote their respective race or candidate one last time. It seemed to be a slow day at the polls, though.  Ferguson-Florissant board candidate and incumbent Paul Schroeder said that he had the count at close to 200 around 3 p.m. According to the St. Louis County Board of Elections, there are more than 1,500 registered voters for the polling place. “This is going to be a slow one,” Schroeder said. Hazelwood School District board candidate and incumbent Mark Behlmann shook his …

I think it is so sad how there were several local issues on the ballot and so few people turned out for it. We not only vote but work for the candidates/issues we support. The best way to have your voice heard is to participate in the process.   more ›

Ferguson-Florissant Candidate Gets Stronger in Second Run

Brian Scott Ebert lost in the April 2011 but is running for the second time for a school board seat.

Running for the Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education was a learning experience for candidate Brian Scott Ebert. Ebert, the parent of three children in the district, lost the nine-way race in 2011 but has thrown himself into this year’s race. “You figure, ‘I guess I’ll give it another try,’” he said. “After you do it one time, it’s kind of hard to just run one time. The first time is learning about the process.” Ebert said that he learned a lot last year and doesn’t deny his ignorance to the election process. “I was kind of unprepared. I didn’t realize the political element behind it,” he said. “As a nonpaid position, I see it as giving back.” This year is a bit different, though. Instead of facing eight other challengers for three seats…
