Hazelwood School District Board Members Sworn In, New Leadership Announced

Only incumbents filed to run for the HSD Board of Education, and those members were sworn in. As well a host of new principals and leaders were recently announced.

Hazelwood School District Board of Education incumbents Cheryl Latham and Carlton Thornton were sworn in at Tuesday's meeting. Both board members took the oath of office. Following the swearing in, the board held elections for leadership positions on the board of education with the following results: The board recently approved several promotions and hires for the 2013-14 school year. Lisa Strauther and Jeff Haug have been named assistant superintendents. “I am pleased with the variety of experience that Dr. Strauther and Dr. Haug bring to the team,” said HSD Superintendent Grayling Tobias in a statement. “I look forward to working collaboratively with them in our efforts to improve academic achievement in HSD.” Strauther has been the …

HSD Approves Budget for Several Hundred Teachers, Administrators to Attend Summer Institute

The board of education approved a contract with NCS Pearson for its annual summer professional development at Tuesday's meeting along with two other contracts.

Hazelwood School District (HSD) teachers and administrators will participate in a summer professional development to strengthen assessment literacy practices. The cost for the Assessment Literacy Summer Institute is $88,000. The board of education approved a contract with NCS Pearson, which operates a contact center on behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, and according to the Office of Federal Contract Compliance holds more than $12 million in federal contracts to conduct education research. HSD Board of Education Approves New Windows, Fuel Pump and Payroll Contractor

The Hazelwood School District Board of Education also approved a rate for the Special School District of St. Louis County to lease facility space.

The Hazelwood School District (HSD) Board of Education gathered Tuesday in front of a host of staff, parents and students to work through district business. On the agenda were more than a few items on which the board had to vote. The board approved a small contract with F.H.E. Service, LLC. The contract is a maintenance agreement regarding a sealing machine that folds and fills out checks and W2 forms. The fee for this is $695. The district also approved Kronos Maintenance and Support for a contract worth $68,933. Diana Gulotta, assistant superintendent for communications said Kronos is the software the district uses to pay employees. Dwight Lindhorst, assistant superintendent for finance and facilities gave his quarterly budget update in which he attributed an increase of revenue, along with decreased expenditures for taking a  November 2012 budget deficit from $496,000 to a $168,000 operating surplus in the first quarter of 2013. The Hazelwood School District (HSD) Board of Education will convene Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., to discuss district business. The bigger matter of business Tuesday will be an update 2012-13 fiscal year budget. Information has been released that details how a $9 million surplus of funds was discovered in August, which indicates one reason former superintendent Steve Price was fired. Since the discovery, an average 5 percent raise was allotted for teachers and other employees in the district. The HSD Board of Education requested Dwight Lindhorst, assistant superintendent for finance and facilities, present a budget update on how such a surplus could have gone unnoticed. When HSD is short 9 million will the teachers give back the 5% raise or will they remind us they have a contract. I think the logical choice would he been to refund the surplus to the tax payers.   more ›
