Keith English faces Republican Rekha Sharma in the November general election.
Ward 4 City Councilman Keith English has defeated Rep. Bert Atkins in the state representative race for District 68. English defeated the incumbent 2,226 to 1,532. Candidate Todd Hoffman received 10 percent of the vote. “I want to take this leadership to the state level, where I think I can make an impact to North County,” English said in an earlier interview with Florissant Patch. “I think that North County has been looked over for many years for state money.” Rep. Atkins represented the 75th District until the latest redistricting due to 2010 census. English will face Republican candidate Rekha Sharma in the Nov. 6 general election. With the filing season closed, the statewide campaign season begins for the August primary, November general elections.
With April’s municipal election out of the way, voters and citizens are turning their attention toward the August primary and November general elections. The filing for the county and statewide offices closed last week, and the race toward August has taken off. In St. Louis County, two libertarians, Theodis Brown and Jeff Coleman, have challenged incumbent Mike O’Mara for his 4th District County Councilman seat. Previously, attorney Leslie Broadnax had filed to challenge the seat, but her name was removed from the filing on March 2. However, Broadnax informed Patch that with the redistricting of the county’s district, her house was no longer included in the 4th district. Several local officials have traveled to Jefferson City in order to file for state representative and senate seats.
Last week, filings for state and St. Louis County offices began, and it’s begun to give a picture of the races shaping up for August. For St. Louis County, 4th District incumbent Councilman Mike O’Mara will face a challenge from attorney Leslie Broadnax. Both filed on Feb. 28. “I enjoy my position as a county councilman. I enjoy working with my community and getting things done,” O’Mara said in an earlier interview with Florissant Patch. “I want to make sure we get our share of resources.” On the state level, four have filed in the District 68 race. Florissant Ward 4 Councilman will challenge State Rep. Bert Atkins for his seat.
It looks like state representative Bert Atkins (D-Florissant) will have a challenge for his seat for Missouri's 75th Congressional district. Ward 4 Councilmen Keith English announced his plans to challenge Atkins for the state seat during Monday's Florissant City Council meeting. “I want to take this leadership to the state level, where I think I can make an impact to North County,” English said in an interview with Florissant Patch. “I think that North County has been looked over for many years for state money.” English has served as the Ward 4 Councilman for the past five years and has been the council president for the past two years.
