Hendel's Market Cafe is a charming restaurant in the heart of Old Town Florissant. It is housed in a building that dates back to 1873 and the restaurant features creative American cuisine. It is open for lunch and dinner, and for brunch on Sunday until 2pm. The lunch menu is varied and includes crab cakes, quesadillas, grilled salmon and grilled chicken salads, BBQ beef or fish sandwiches and several types of burgers. For dinner, the menu offers a selection of choice aged steaks, seafood and pasta entrees. Sunday Brunch features three-egg omelets.
The atmosphere is upscale and comfortable and is suitable for fine dining and special occasions. There is also a full bar and a very nice wine list. Besides the inside seating, there is seating on a covered patio and at garden tables. There is live music on Thursday through Saturday evenings until 9pm.

I have lived in Old Town Florissant for 39 years. We knew Hendels when it was a corner store and my two daughters along with friends went there after school to get candy. It was great to see that it was turned into Hendel's Cafe to keep the history of the days gone by from the 1800's. I have eaten there many many times and the food, atmosphere, wine and service is always excellent. It is a hidden treasure in Old Town Florissant than everyone should experience. Ask them about the history. They may even have a historic picture with horse and carriages in front.
I was treated to a birthday dinner at Hendel's this past Tuesday evening. The atmosphere is so relaxing and tasteful and I love the table service. Speaking of service, the wait staff was very accommodating. The Stuffed Portabello mushroom entry was excellent. I also enjoyed the fresh Caesar Salad and my glass of Sauvingnon Blanc was light, fruity and well paired with my wonderful dinner. Can't wait for the new Fall menu. Angie B

This was my dining experience this sunday
The 1 hour and fifteen minute wait (they said it would be 30 minutes on the phone...) (the Rude hostess) all added to the whole dining experience not good.. the food was ok...though they were out of toast ( at breakfast)? and onion rings...(?) finally and apologetically they presented me with an incorrect bill ( in Hendels favor) next time I have a $130 to spend feeding my family I will try somewere else. My blood pressure will thank you.
Just enjoyed lunch with my best friend. We had the Pasta de Fleurisant and it was terrific. Such a comfortable environment and good service.
