Are you ready for some food on wheels? Food Truck Friday is set for October 11 at Knights of Columbus and Old St. Ferdinand Shrine, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Paul Manganelli, event organizer and Knights of Columbus member, has been working to get about 10 trucks including Zia’s Slice of the Hill, My Big Fat Greek Truck, Cha Cha Chow, The Meltdown, 2 Girls 4 Wheels, Completely Sauced, Kona Shaved Ice, Steak Louie and Shell’s Coastal Cuisine to show up and show why food trucks have serious cuisine.
"The event is called Food Trucks by the Old St. Ferdinand Shrine (and) it is being sponsored by the Duchesne Council of Knights of Columbus 2951," Manganelli said. "The biggest reason that I wanted to do this was to have a family friendly event that would positively showcase Florissant."
Manganelli said considering the trucks have a natural following, it should bring their fans from out of the area into Florissant.
"Just think how cool it's going to be to have these trucks in the shadow of the Old St Ferdinand Shrine," he said. "People from outside of Florissant will be able to see the crown jewel of Florissant.
"I'm sure they will be surprised to find out that the Shrine is older than the Old Cathedral on the Arch Grounds."
Manganelli said if all goes well, the Knights of Columbus will try and hold several next year with more trucks.
"With this being a first time event, I wanted to limit the number of trucks and also wanted it to be all about the trucks," he said. "The goal I for these trucks to do very well and want to come back."
Don't fear missing the St. Louis Cardinals play. Manganelli said the baseball game will be playing on a big screen under the pavilion.
This is going to be a rain or shine event. The Knights of Columbus grounds has covered pavilions Manganelli said can seat hundreds of people.Knights of Columbus is located at 50 rue St. Francois, Florissant, MO, 63031.
