North County Residents Prepare to Run Ferguson Twilight Run

The annual race will take place May 18.

With all of the comfort foods offered by the wintertime, the Ferguson Twilight Run wants to get people thinking and acting upon their health.

The fourth annual Twilight Run will take place May 18, and a part of its mission is to get North County residents active and healthy.

This year, the event adds a 10K run to its 5K and one-mile fun run for participants. Race director Dwayne James said that it was decided to add a different event to give people a challenge. He said that the planners are working with St. Louis County to develop a second route and get permission for road closures on race day.

The event grew out of LiveWell Ferguson, which had the mission to get residents to be more active. Since then, it’s grown to not only be about being healthy but showcasing the Ferguson and North County community.

“It has the essence of a true running event but with a community feel and fun,” James said.

The run even features a “Couch to 5K Training Program,” where it helps beginning runners or those interested in getting into shape train for the race for nine weeks leading up to it. That program starts March 18.

This year, James said their aiming to have 1,800 participants, which he feels can be done.

“It’s doable because we have community support,” he said. “It’s grown to be something everyone is behind.”

Early registration is currently open through April 19 with a cost of $20 for the 5K and 10K. It increases by $5 following that until May 15 and a total of $30 until race day. The one-mile fun run costs $10.

As the name implies, the run will be held during the evening hours, with the fun run starting at 5 p.m. and the 5K/10K starting at 6 p.m.
