Carrothers said he enjoyed the Bridge program’s sessions on career and personal development sessions. He said he gained presentation skills and the helped him understand how to present himself and speak more effectively.

“It also helped me learn about finding jobs and knowing what colleges I want to attend,” Carrothers said.

He said he decided he would like to attend an Ivy League university or Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Carrothers said he also enjoyed a science class in which he dissected a pig.

“It was a hands-on job,” he said. “I like using my hands, and we learned a lot about body parts. It’s just something I’d never done before.”
