North County Public Schools Superintendent Inspiring St. Louis

Hazelwood Superintendent Grayling Tobias, Ferguson-Florissant Superintendent Art McCoy received recognition for being one of 25 Inspiring St. Louisans.

Both Florissant public school superintendents have been called an inspiration to the community, but they now have awards to back it up.

St. Louis County NAACP named Ferguson-Florissant Superintendent Art McCoy and Hazelwood Superintendent Grayling Tobias as an Inspiring St. Louisans. The Class of 2013 included 25 honorees.

Both men were honored last month at the organization's Freedom Fund Fellowship Dinner.

St. Louis County NAACP President Esther Haywood said in a press release that the class of 2013 has “25 outstanding individuals who have contributed positively to the lives of men and women across the region. The leaders being recognized have made stellar advancements in the areas of business, law, education, health and government.”

Chris Nicastro, Missouri Commissioner of Education and former superintendent of HSD, was also recognized as an Inspiring St. Louisan.

Previous honorees also include HSD Assistant Superintendent of Learning Darrell Strong and former KMOV anchorwoman Vicki Newton.

McCoy was also an honoree in 2011.
