Meet the HSD Board of Education Candidates Thursday

The League of Women Voters of St. Louis will moderate a public forum for candidates running for the Hazelwood School District Board of Education.

Not sure for whom you plan to vote onto the Hazelwood School District (HSD) Board of Education on April 3? Take an opportunity on Thursday and find out what the three candidates are made of.

The League of Women Voters of St. Louis is moderating a public forum for candidates running for the Hazelwood School District Board of Education Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Hazelwood PTA Council is sponsoring the forum which will occur at the .

The public will have the opportunity to learn more about the candidates seeking election to the board, which includes incumbents Mark Behlmann and Desiree Whitlock, along with newcomer Keith Boykin Sr.  

Last event had a large resident turnout and an almost standing room only audience. The were asked questions regarding:

  • Out-of-the-box thinking as it pertains to HSD operations
  • Educational experience as it pertains to engaging minority populations
  • Merit pay for teachers
  • Handling unruly students
  • Open enrollment
  • School funding and budget cuts
  • Alternative Schools for students requiring special attention
  • How the district can better prepare students for college
