Hazelwood Northwest Middle Officials Respond to 'Grab a Girl's Butt Day'

Hazelwood Northwest Middle School students took what some might consider a middle school prank to a new level last week.

Some of the sixth-grade male students instituted “grab a girl’s behind” day, which left a father of a sixth-grade girl wanting sexual assault charges drawn up, according to a KSDK article.

Officials of Hazelwood Northwest Middle School said that after reviewing videos, all of those involved are undergoing discipline and parents have been contacted about the matter.

Friday afternoon, Principal Willicia Hobbs sent a newsletter out to parents regarding the matter, and this is what she said:

You may have seen the news coverage last night on Channel 5 regarding our school. I want to take this opportunity to share additional information with you.

Yesterday morning, we were notified that a few of our sixth grade boys were participating in a game in which they grabbed the behinds of female students. The administrators spent most of the day reviewing videos and talking to students about the inappropriateness of this game.  All parents of the students directly involved were notified. We are currently assigning consequences based on our middle school behavior guide.

In addition, during the lunch period yesterday, we addressed the entire sixth grade student body about the importance of keeping their hands to themselves and the seriousness of these incidents. We emphasized that our students need to respect one another. It would be very helpful if you would talk to your children about following our Knights’ Code of being respectful, responsible and kind.

Parents, I also want to remind those of you who can, to participate in the various facets of our school. We would love to have you support the efforts our PTSA, serve as a volunteer, mentor or tutor.  Your involvement supports, encourages and motivates us. We truly value our partnerships with you.

According to the KSDK report, once the review is done in the school, a judge in the St. Louis County Juvenile Court could review the case.
