Florissant School Districts Fare Well in Annual Performance Review

The and school districts will remain accredited from the state of Missouri, preliminary annual performance data released on Friday shows.

The Ferguson-Florissant School District met 9 of 14 standards established by the state on which to evaluate districts, while Hazelwood received 10 of 14.

The state evaluates 14 areas of academic performance for each district in the state ranging from attendance to the Annual College Test (ACT) scores, and they assist in the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education look at which schools need support.

Throughout the state, 256 districts met all 14 standards out of a total of 447 K-12 districts.

To be fully accredited, a district must have met 9-14 of the standards; to receive provisional accreditation, the district must meet 6 to 9 standards. Districts who meet 0 to 5 standards can receive a recommendation to the State Board of Education to be classified as unaccredited.

The Breakdown

The Ferguson-Florissant School District did not meet the state’s standards in the mathematics, grades 3-5; MAP communication arts, grades 3-5; ACT. In the Hazelwood School District, MAP grades 6-8 communication arts did not meet the state’s standard.

Both failed to meet standards in:

• MAP grades 9-12 communication arts
• Attendance rate
• Meeting the benchmark for achievement on the MAP test

Despite missing a few standards, Ferguson-Florissant and Hazelwood did improve on its standard numbers by two points and one point, respectively.
