Florissant Football Teams Attempt to Avoid the Heat

Hazelwood Central, McCluer North move game times to morning for Saturday.

Home teams and are not going to fight the predicted high temperatures and humidity for Saturday football games.


The Stars game against has been changed from 1 p.m. to 11 a.m.

The Hawks game against Pattonville has also been changed from 1 p.m. to 11 a.m.

"It's always hard to change the time of a game, but this is the right thing to do," North coach Jim Schottmueller said. "You never know how it's going to be the day of the game. It's better to error on the side of caution for the kids."

"We're playing at 10 next week at the Dome, so we might as well get the kids used to it," Schottmueller said. North plays Pattonville at 10 a.m. Sept. 10 at the TWA Dome.

Many area teams are changing game times for all sports on Friday and Saturday to battle tough conditions. Some schools even cancelled sporting events on Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Florissant the St. Louis area until Saturday at 7 p.m. Forecasters predict the heat index to reach between 100 and 110 degrees during Friday and Saturday.
