Ferguson-Florissant Opens Enrollment, Awaits Transfer Cases
With the first day of enrollment underway Monday, many eyes will watch to see how many unaccredited district students transfer to Ferguson-Florissant.
Ferguson-Florissant opens its enrollment for 2013-2014 school year Monday with a close eye upon it.
One question surrounding this year’s enrollment is how many from Normandy and Riverview Gardens school districts might transfer to the neighboring North St. Louis County School District.
The Missouri Supreme Court issued a decision in Breitenfeld v. School District of Clayton last month that has allowed for students in unaccredited school districts such as Normandy and Riverview Gardens school districts to transfer into accredited school districts. Ferguson-Florissant School District is accredited.

Superintendent Art McCoy said last week, he didn’t believe it would be a large amount coming into the district.
He estimates that approximately 200 students could transfer into the district, which is equal to the number of homeless students the district has worked with in the past year.

Students interested in transferring to the district from the unaccredited districts will be able to enroll at the same time as other students who live in Ferguson-Florissant, spokeswoman Jana Shortt said.
For regular enrollment, parents must provide the following:
Updated occupancy permit (dated within the past 90 days) as well as a current lease or a mortgage bill
Proof of birth date
Student’s original social security card
Immunization record from birth
Last school’s report card
Withdrawal form from previous school
Discipline report
Photo ID of parent or guardian
Students from Normandy or Riverview Gardens must provide an approved common application from their home district to enroll in Ferguson-Florissant. In order to transfer, all of those applications must be submitted to Riverview Gardens or Normandy by Aug. 1.
Ferguson-Florissant enrollment is Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Ferguson-Florissant Administration building.
The first day of school for students is Aug. 12.
