Ferguson-Florissant Teachers, Staff Want to Clear the Air

An overflowing room at the Board of Education meeting revealed a group of seven teachers and staff members who wanted clarification on rumors and the direction of McCluer South-Berkeley High School.

The teachers and staff members voiced their concerns regarding the possibility of another leadership change, which one teacher indicated would be possibly six principals in eight years, as well as the impact on the school’s morale.

“I don’t know any army that could survive if you’re constantly changing generals,” said one teacher who asked that Patch not publish his name.

Each member of the group spoke regarding the rumors circulating, not only within the teachers but with students in the classroom.

declined to comment on the issue, citing it as a personnel matter, but he did say that he would be following up with the school’s administrators and staff Thursday.

Planning ahead for the next year

The Ferguson-Florissant Board of Education briefly discussed the first reading of the 2012-13 school year calendar.

Chief Human Resource Officer Amy Joyce presented the calendar to the board and audience.

Joyce presented highlights of the calendar, including three built-in orientation days, two full days for professional development as well as a short fall break and a short break in February tied to parent-teacher conferences.

Joyce also said that the calendar meets the state minimum requirements for days and hours.

The second reading of the calendar will be presented during the December board meeting.
