Ferguson-Florissant Explores Possible Bond Issue

The district has formed a committee to look at the possibility of creating a bond issue for voters.

Despite its financial hardships, the Ferguson-Florissant School District has a committee formed and looking into the possibility of creating a bond issue.

During the April Ferguson-Florissant board meeting, the board heard briefly of the committeeโ€™s formation to look into the matter of creating a bond issue.

The committee, which had its first meeting Wednesday evening, will look into all of the districtโ€™s needs, including facility infrastructure improvement, district spokeswoman Jana Shortt said.

In 2010, voters approved a $25-million bond issue for the district that went toward supporting student achievement, building repairs and upgrades for student safety.

As many school districts are struggling with finances, the district faces as much as $10 million in shortages for the 2013-2014 school year.

The committee will make its first report to the board at the May 8 meeting.
