Ferguson-Florissant Board Approves Budget, Health Plan Changes

New health plan would save $1.3 million for the district.

In a rather understated manner, the approved its fiscal year 2011-2012 budget as well as a change to the district’s health plan at its last meeting.

The board approved a budget of $136.4 million, which included a budget of $6.75 million for capital improvements.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch previously reported that the reserves would decrease by $7 million by June 30, 2012 due to planned capital expenditures.

The board also heard a proposal to change the district’s health plan that would save the district $1.3 million.

The district’s insurance committee performed a four-month study to discover the maximum savings with minimal impact to what their current plan offers.

Mick Willis, assistant superintendent for finance and chief financial officer, explained to the board that there would be minimal changes.

He said that the biggest would be the charges for emergency room services, however, he said the charges are high to encourage regular visits to the doctor.

The board unanimously approved the health plan change.
