Voters Appear to Stay Away From Polls in Florissant

Voter turnout appears to be low in the municipal election.

If you are out visiting Florissant polling places Tuesday afternoon, you might notice that low voter turnout appears to be a recurring issue across the city.

At the in Ward 7, several candidates and poll workers stood outside of the church to promote their respective race or candidate one last time.

It seemed to be a slow day at the polls, though.

said that he had the count at close to 200 around 3 p.m. According to the St. Louis County Board of Elections, there are more than 1,500 registered voters for the polling place.

“This is going to be a slow one,” Schroeder said.

“I’d be surprised at a 10 percent turnout,” he said. “It’s aggravating.”

Despite the low turnout, some candidates’ spirits seem to be very high.

“I feel good about today,” said. “No matter win or lose, I’m a winner for the people I’ve met.”

At , Dolly Schroeder, wife of candidate Schroeder, said she believed that the count of voters seemed to be close to 150. According to St. Louis County Board of Elections, there are more than 1,700 registered voters for this polling place.

All expressed hopes that more people would come out after leaving work. The polls close at 7 p.m.
