Two Have Filed for Ward 3 Council Seat

On opening day of filing, HSD Board Member Mark Behlmann and Maryland Heights Police Officer Joe Eagan have fulfilled their filing requirements.

As of 8 a.m. this morning, the filing for the Ward 3 Council seat opened and has ignited a start to the Aug. 2 election.

Mayor vacated the seat in April after winning the April 5 mayor’s election.

City Clerk Karen Goodwin said two have picked up and already filed for the Ward 3 seat, Mark Behlmann and Joe Eagan.

Mayor Schneider defeated Behlmann, who currently serves as a board member of the Hazelwood School District, in the race for the mayor's seat in April. 

serves as a police officer in the Maryland Heights department. In December 2010, Eagan was shot in the line of duty when armed gunmen attempted to steal his car.

After a long recovery, Detective Sgt. Eagan has returned to active duty and has decided to run for public office, his Facebook recovery page stated.

In order to run for the seat, interested parties must:

  • Have 200 signatures from within that ward
  • Be a registered voter in that ward for one year

Interested candidates have until May 17 to pick up nomination packets and file them.
