Annexation Could Bring CVS Pharmacy to Wentzville

The pharmacy chain is prepared to purchase 3.24 acres on Wentzville Parkway at West Meyer Road if the annexation is approved.

The Wentzville Board of Aldermen tabled the first reading of a bill Wednesday night to voluntarily annex a 3-acre piece of farm property on Wentzville Parkway. The annexation would clear the way for a new CVS Pharmacy to be built at that location.

The parcel was subdivided from a larger piece of property that lies in unincorporated St. Charles County, although it is surrounded by the City of Wentzville. The property is currently owned by the Brune family.

CVS plans to pay for utilities to be brought across the Parkway from Pitman Funeral Home, and will dedicate 15 feet of right of way for the eventual widening and improvement of Wentzville Parkway.

The members of the board were concerned about the need for right-of-way acquisition for the rest of the land, which will remain with the Brune family and still be unincorporated. Many members of the board expressed their interest in having CVS build in the city, but they did not want to approve the first reading until that issue was addressed.

If the annexation gets a nod from the board of aldermen, CVS will have to go through the usual procedure—approval of rezoning and a site plan from the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Alderman.

The CVS store would be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with two drive-through lanes for pharmacy services only.

I don't understand our need for a second cvs drug store in Wentzville... Didn't the first one close its doors shortly after it opened?

Kevin, that was a Standard Drug, where USA Resale is currently located.

Why do we even need another drug store on WP? We have 2 Walgreens, and retailers like Target and Wal-Mart with phamacies, as well as grocery store like Scnucks and Dierbergs with paharmacies. Isn't this over kill? Maybe on the other side of 70 off of H'wy Z someplace.

CVS has just opened a new location in O'Fallon on Highway K and Highway N, directly across the street from a long time existing Walgreen's. There is another Walgreen's 2 miles north on K and another Walgreen's 2 miles south on K. The competition between the two stores across the street from one another has been good and they are flourishing. The other two Walgreen's on K, with another on 5 miles north on Main Street in O'Fallon are doing well too. It's working in O'Fallon....Wentzville should do well with another one...CVS is much stronger than Standard Drug. Just my opinion.

Why is it that nothing seems to come to the South side of the highway. It would releive a whole lot of traffic off the parkway.
