Mayor Lowery Recognized for 50 Years of Service

Florissant City Council honors Lowery and his family as he prepares for retirement.

Although Monday night’s Florissant City Council was business as usual for most of the night, the middle of the meeting served as a time to honor and reflect upon the city’s retiring chief administrator.

The Florissant City Council as well as the room of more than 30 attendees honored retiring for his years of service as policeman, police chief and mayor.

Mayor Lowery announced in December that he would step down from office and retire following the April 2011 election. On April 5, Ward 3 Councilman beat out five other candidates with 37 percent of the vote to receive the office.

Council members then took a few minutes to express their gratitude and memories of the mayor.

“I wish you the best in your retirement. It’s the best thing you can do,” Ward 2 City Councilman and 14-year retiree John Grib said.

Mayor-elect Schneider said, “I’ve always admired your affection for the city. I’ve got big shoes to fill, and I thank you for everything that you taught me.”

, who was defeated in his candidacy for mayor by Schneider, wished Mayor Lowery a long and happy retirement and said that the City of Florissant would always be there for him.

“I had a long, distinguished career, and I had a very worried wife,” he said. “It has been my pleasure to serve you for the past 10 years.”
