Keith English Remains Ward 4 City Councilman

English beats challenger Jeff Caputa in his first contested election.

Keith English will retain his Ward 4 City Council seat after defeating opponent Jeff Caputa.

English won 63 percent of the vote and claimed victory on Tuesday night in a victory celebration at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall.Β 

"I'm breathing much easier and so are the supporters and residents of Ward 4," English said following his victory.

English has held the seat since a special election in 2007 after 20-year incumbent Geri Debo stepped down. This was the first contested election for English.

English and his challenger, Caputa, boasted similar backgrounds as each worked in labor. Engish is a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1, and Caputa sits as a member of the Cement Masons Union Local 527.

Caputa recently ran for the 76th district state representative seat in 2010, and he made a second attempt at politics as the Ward 4 councilman.

English is excited to maintain his seat and be able to continue to serve the residents of Ward 4. He already a has a few projects in mind for the ward such as looking into the flood plain issue as well as working on establishing Neighborhood Watch block captains on every street.

"I want to thank the Ward 4 residents for voting on this beautiful day," he said.
