Judge Tim Kelly Passes Away

Flags in Florissant will be flown at half mast for nine days for 32-year municipal judge.

For more than 30 years, has served the city of Florissant as municipal judge, following in the footsteps of his late father John F. Kelly.

After recently being re-elected to a ninth term as municipal judge in April, Tim passed away on Saturday. He was 63.

Mayor Tom Schneider sent an email Sunday afternoon notifying local officials and media of Kelly’s passing.

“Tim and I were born in the same year, we both served in the Navy, we liked the same sports, and we were elected to office for the first time on the same April day in 1979,” Schneider wrote in the email. “We became good friends from that day forward sharing life's triumphs both political and personal and also encouraging each other when times were challenging for us.”

Kelly grew up in the Florissant area and attended several formal schools such as Our Lady of Fatima and St. Thomas Aquinas. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Missouri Valley College and a juris doctorate in 1973 from Saint Louis University School of Law.

Kelly was elected to the municipal judge position in 1979 and has remained a staple of Florissant’s judicial system for the past 32 years.

“I will miss Judge Kelly, but I will miss my friend Tim and his kind concern and clever sense of humor even more,” Mayor Schneider wrote in his email.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 8 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at . His funeral will be at on Thursday at 10 a.m. 

Schneider wrote that flags will be flown at half mast for nine days for each term that Kelly was elected.
