Jeff Caputa Sworn in as Florissant Ward 4 Councilman

One of Caputa's first order of businessman as councilman was to vote on the Walmart development.

When Florissant City Council voted for the Walmart development Monday night, it voted with a full council for the first time in the past few months.

Ward 4 gained a new councilman when Mayor Tom Schneider swore in Jeff Caputa. He filled the vacancy on the council left by

Caputa ran an unopposed race and earlier this month officially won the seat.

"It was a surprise to me that I ran unopposed," Caputa said in an earlier interview.

He's also already got some ideas of issues he's like to address, such as recycling, taking care of the trail near Sunset Park and getting a schedule for street cleaning to residents.

"I'm going to try and keep up what Mr. English did,” he said.

In one of his first acts as councilman, Caputa had to vote on a major development but seemed to keep a cool head throughout.

“Everyone has their own opinion (on Walmart),” he said following the meeting. “I left my opinion out, and I think it’ll be for the betterment of the community.”

Caputa said he’s focused on working with the council and moving Florissant forward as Ward 4 Councilman. He’s next big duty will be the weather of the Valley of Flowers festival, which is a tradition held by council for new members.

Caputa said he forecasts partly cloudy days with an average of 75 degrees during the three-day festival.
