Heavy Rain, Utilities Cause Bumps With Sewer Project

The Harrison-St. Marie storm sewer project had a couple of hiccups recently, but it's moving forward.

Sunday, the heavy rains washed out some of the gravel that filled a hole at Harrison and North Lafayette. That led Ward 6 Councilman Pat Stinnett and the City of Florissant to take action to caution residents and had it blocked off. Monday, steel plates were placed over it.

Metropolitan Sewer District of St. Louis spokesman Lance Lecomb said that the workers also found some utilities that needed to be moved, but it wouldn't prove a problem with the work.

He said this could cause a one to two week delay but it wouldn't be a problem for the timeline.

The project is underway to relieve flooding and pounding and will install storm sewers to help. The project is estimated at more than $280,000.

The project should wrap up by the end of the year, Lecomb said.
