Former Rep. Gina Walsh (D-St. Louis) has officially announced her intentions to seek the District 13 Senate Seat, now held by Sen. Tim Green (D-Spanish Lake).

Walsh formally announced her bid Saturday morning at

“The people of North County deserve a person as our next state senator that puts problem-solving before politics,” Walsh said in a press release. “Having served eight years in the Missouri House, I have built the relationships and I have the experience necessary to provide the residents of North County the best representation in our state Capitol.”

Sen. Green will be term limited this year but has announced his support of the senate candidate.

According to the St. Louis/Southern Illinois Labor Tribune, Green offered his full support of Walsh as his successor.

“In these difficult times, we need state legislators who will offer real solutions to the issues we face,” he said in the article. “Gina Walsh has earned my personal support on the basis of her longstanding, proven leadership on issues like quality job-creation and economic development, and her consisten support of working men and women.”

Green has also been listed as her campaign treasurer, according to the bottom of her press release.

Walsh serves as an active North County community member as she serves in the North County Labor Legislative Club, St. Ferdinand and Spanish Lake Democratic Clubs and North County Incorporated’s board of directors. She also sits on the advisory board for Missouri Women in the Trades.

Filing for the state Senate as well as House of Representatives begins Feb. 28 and ends March 27. No challengers have announced intentions to seek the seat at this time.

Gina is the real deal. A person that genuinely cares for and works hard for the people she represents. North County could not have a better state senator for the next four years. Gina has my vote on Tuesday, August 7, 2012.
