Florissant's Vacant Value City Department Store Will Get Makeover

Florissant City Council unanimously passes bill to convert the structure to five retail stores.

The sitting on Lindbergh Boulevard will soon be just a memory for Florissant residents.

On Monday night, the unanimously approved the renovation of the space to become five retail stores as well as a two-store out lot building.

During the public hearing for the proposal in December, the exterior insulation finishing system (EIFS) seemed to be a point of contention amongst councilors as to whether to move it forward.

However, on Monday, the council passed the bill as is with the EIFS remaining as proposed with a vote of 8-0. Ward 9 Councilman Ben Hernandez was absent.

Mayor Tom Schneider said that he couldn’t reveal the identities of the incoming stores due to the pending finalization of contract negotiations. However, he did leave a couple of hints.

“It’s going to be really exciting for females and for young people,” he said. “There’s also a popular eating establishment that everybody will flock to.”
