Florissant Parks and Rec Director Retiring at End of Year

Mayor Tom Schneider has appointed assistant director of parks and recreation to the position starting in January of 2013.

Friday, Mayor Tom Schneider announced that Director Ron Veach would retire at the end of this year.

He has spent a majority of his career in Florissant as he’s worked as the Director of Parks and Recreation for almost 40 years.

According to a press release, in past years, Veach has been a leader in designing and completing the Nature Lodge at Sunset Park, enlarging the swim facilities at Koch and Bangert parks and has been helpful in securing funds for playground ugrades around the city.

Also, he’s been the longest serving director of a park and recreation area in the metropolitan area.

He will retire Dec. 31.

Following the retirement announcement, Mayor Schneider announced that assistant parks and recreation director Todd Schmidt would be promoted to the director position, effective Jan. 1, 2013. Schmidt has worked in the department since 1982.
