Florissant Mayor, Ferguson-Florissant Superintendent Team Up for Students
The two will tour Florissant area schools as a part of Black History Month.
With a big political season building up and Black History Month at the halfway point, Mayor Tom Schneider and have attempted to make an impact on area students.
The two have paired up for a speaking series throughout the month of February and early March to speak to students about citizenship, civil rights and giving back to the community.
Mayor Schneider said that the history speeches are a part of what he’s done traditionally in the past, and after a lunch meeting with the superintendent, both decided to do it together in February and March.

“We’re trying to let students know that they have a great opportunity, and we want them to take advantage of it,” he said.
Schneider said the first speech, which was held at in front of juniors and seniors, contained information about President Abraham Lincoln, President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. He also included recorded speeches from Kennedy and King.

Schneider said that he told students to pay attention to mostly the eloquence of the leaders and their words as it would help them in their future.
Superintendent McCoy and Mayor Schneider will continue their tour of Florissant schools this month and next, with the following schedule:
