Florissant City Council Weighs Law for Sunday Liquor Sales

Monday night, the Florissant City Council approved one bill and did a first reading on five other bills.

Here’s a rundown of what else was approved and what’s waiting in the wings for future meetings:

• The council unanimously approved Substitute Bill 8857, which will give a special use permit to Roll-A-Way Auto Sales to operate its business at 1121 N. Lafayette. The bill was originally postponed during the Sept. 10 meeting, and the substitute bill was introduced and passed to include that the auto sales dealer not be a “buy here, pay here” location.
• The council did its first reading on Bill 8860, which would vacate the city’s interest in certain easements by Maloney Manor One.
• The Council read Bill 8863, which would allow for changes to the design for Park Side Estates on Charbonier Road.
• Bill 8864 was read for the first time, and it transfers $6,000 and $11,000 for Bangert Pool and respectively, for the utility costs of each location.
• The Council read Bill 8865, which would amend the city’s ordinance pertaining to Sunday sales of alcohol by establishments that currently sell food. Establishments would not be required to sell food on Sundays but would have to obtain a permit, which is in accordance of state law.
• The council did its first reading over Bill 8866, which would be a $27,000 expenditure for software and a new police dog for the Florissant Police Department.
