Florissant City Council Weighs Second Readings in Meeting

The 2012 budget will have its final vote in Monday's meeting.

The Florissant City Council will have a number of bills to consider for second and final readings during Monday’s meeting, including the .

After a series of budget meetings in October, the council made a number of revisions and amendments to the budget. , and—if adopted as is—the council would approve a $30.8 million budget.

  • There’s an additional pay period for the 2012 fiscal year, which Mayor Tom Schneider previously has denoted happens every five years.
  • The council voted to cut overtime for departments in half. For example, the public works department requested $90,000 for overtime, but it has been reduced to $45,000. All city employees would also receive a one-time $400 bonus toward the end of the year.
  • The senior services department requested an amendment to its budget because of a change in caterers. Therefore, its budget increased by $16,400 for its senior lunches as well as more than $2,000 for assistance in catering supplies.
  • For the health department, Mayor Schneider suggested splitting the responsibilities of the department head between two “Class A” foremen. For the past year, the public works director has taken on some of the responsibilities, but Mayor Schneider believes that this would be a budget-effective resolution, he told Patch previously. 

The 2012 fiscal year starts Dec. 1.
