Florissant City Council Rejects Platinum Motors Satellite Office

Councilors site they want to see a low-traffic business for the property at 605 Loyola.

The building at 605 loyola will remain a blank slate for the time being after Florissant City Council failed a bill to allow for a satellite car dealership.

Platinum Motors requested for a special permit for the site, which would house a satellite location to its current location on Dunn Road in unincorporated North St. Louis County. But several councilors said they didn’t believe the property was set up for such a business.

Real estate agent Melanie McIlroy spoke to council and requested a delay of a vote until a later meeting to provide additional information to council.

Ward 1 Councilman Tim Lee said he didn’t see a reason for delay, unless McIlroy could provide adequate information that could change councilors minds.

He said that he thought the property would be better served as an insurance agency or some other business that would have low impact on traffic.

“This is the wrong kind of business for this property,” he said.

McIlroy said she has tried to sell this property a number of other times on behalf of the McCafferty family. Mary McCafferty, who owned the property, passed away last year she said. Previously, her daughter had used the building for her chiropractic office.

McIlroy and others pleaded for the council to consider passage of the bill.

Matt Lopane, co-owner of Platinum Motors, said he had spoken to a number of residents on Loyola and many didn’t object to the dealership’s plans, with the exception of one.

“I don’t believe this business would be a safety issue,” Lopane said.

The bill failed with a vote of 7-1. Ward 3 Councilman Joe Eagan was excused from the meeting.
