Florissant Budget on the Up and Up for the First Quarter

The city looks to be on track in most areas of the projected budget.

The Florissant City Council pressed on to review the first quarter budget for the city, even though the city finance director Randy McDaniel wasn’t available for the Monday night meeting.

So far in fiscal year 2013, the City of Florissant is on track in spending and ahead of the curve in revenue.

According to the city’s financial documents, the city’s revenue increased ahead of projected budget figures by 2.4 percent. The capital improvement fund saw the most gain with 6.8 percent and park improvement saw 1.7 percent. In spending, the city appears to be on track on most items, too.

City documents note that the figures could be positive or negative as the rest of the year progresses, though.

During the Council work session, Ward 1 Councilman Tim Lee said the figures and everything looked good but he had two concerns. The professional services line of the sewer lateral fund indicates 90 percent of the budget has already been spent, while 77 percent of the budget for equipment repair has been spent. He said that this could be a point of concern and wanted answers to what was happening there.

He said all other items came to 33.3 percent or less, which is where they should be.

Ward 6 Councilman Pat Stinnett pointed out that more than 81 percent of the professional services budget under the administration had been spent and assumed it was legal fees, but he wanted to be sure.

Both councilmen asked City Clerk Karen Goodwin to find out answers to these concerns from McDaniel.
