Candidacy Information

Florissant Patch: Why did you decide to run for this position?
Marischen: I decided to run again because I believe that government works best when public officials listen. Bad policies are often the result of politicians thinking that they knew what is best for people. Citizens input has been the cornerstone of my first term in office. Because of input from the public, we reduced emergency response times by redeploying personnel and equipment, secured the district's financial situation and saved more than $100,000 taxpayer dollars by refinancing a bond issue.  I would like to continue my service to improve the Fire District.

Florissant Patch: What will be a top priority for you in the office of judge?
Marischen: Seconds matter in an emergency, my top priority would be to continue the focus on reducing the time it takes for our fire and emergency crews to respond to calls, while making sure our financial house is in order.

Florissant Patch: What sets you apart from the other candidate?
Marischen: What sets me apart from the other candidate is that as a lifelong resident of Florissant, I strive to make safety a priority and I will work to maintain the fiscal responsibilities owed to the community I serve. My opponent is 28 years old, a relative of some of the district's employees, and was recruited to run against me because I made tough personnel choices that have resulted in better overall service to our community.  I believe it is my duty as your elected official to watch out for our entire community, not just a few vested interests.

Florissant Patch: Why should residents vote for you?
Marischen: In my first term, we reduced emergency response times by redeploying personnel and equipment, secured the district's financial situation and saved more than $100,000 taxpayer dollars by refinancing a bond issue.  I've been endorsed by the St. Louis Labor Council, the North County Labor Club and many other civic and neighborhood leaders.  I'm  a member of Machinists Local 777, the National Federation of Independent Business, Chamber of Commerce, Old Town Partners, Missouri Association of Career Firefighters and the Missouri Association of Fire Protection Districts.  I hope I can earn your support to continue to serve our community.  I would be honored to have your vote this April 5.
