As many prepare to focus their attention toward the national election, St. Louis County has geared up for its regional election.
O’Mara, of Florissant, will seek his fourth term onto the council.
“I enjoy my position as a county councilman. I enjoy working with my community and getting things done,” he said in an interview with Florissant Patch. “I want to make sure we get our share of resources.”
If elected to office, O’Mara already has ideas of what needs to be done in North County, including maintaining the quality and resources needed for the area, finding a way to stabilize the foreclosure issue in the area as well as the North County recreation center project in Spanish Lake.
He also said that he wants to continue to work on developing the Bellefontaine Road and Dunn Road corridor as well as .
Despite his plans, O'Mara apparently does have some competition for his seat.
Area attorney Leslie T. Broadnax has announced her intentions to pursue the seat.
“It’s a new day, representation for all," Broadnax, a Bellefontaine Neighbors resident and St. Louis County Equalization Board Chairwoman, said. "I don’t think it’s fair for any taxpayer to have their value quadrupled from one year to the next."
All of the even numbered seats of the county council will be up for election in 2012, including Districts 2, 4 and 6.
Filing for the seats begins in early March, O’Mara said. The general election will be held in November.
