Council Votes to Postpone Family and Charter Review Bills

Both bills will be heard again in July council meetings.

The City Council voted to put on hold two big, controversial bills on their agenda until July.

The council voted to postpone the definition of , Bill 8714. Previously, the council voted at its March 29 meeting to postpone the readings until the council could discuss the ordinance further. The council postponed the bill until the July 25 meeting.

The council also voted to postpone the bill until the July 11 meeting. During the May 9 meeting, the council appeared split on continuing with the bill any further, but during Monday night’s meeting, most councilors agreed to postpone until a later time.

Ward 7 Councilwoman Karen McKay said she had no intentions to take advantage of the current council’s make-up or the timeframe of this bill.
